Peter Horobin became interested in saddlery at the age of 15 when he began his apprenticeship with the century old Master Saddlers of Hanover, Germany. There he obtained the knowledge and skills of a true European craftsman.

Whilst still an apprentice, his quality skills were noticed by his Master Saddler and he was asked to make a bridle for the German Government to be given to Argentina as a gift. It was a task he was very honoured and proud to undertake.

At the age of 21 he returned to his home country – Australia – with his family, and established his retail and manufacturing saddlery business on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

Whilst concentrating on the Horse Racing Industry, Peter is proud to have made saddles for all of Australia’s leading jockeys. The 1991 and 1992 Melbourne Cup winners were saddled with Peter’s race saddles.

After detailed discussion to determine the type of saddle required, specific measurements are taken of both the horse and rider. Peter, when possible, will fit the saddle to the horse, to ensure maximum comfort for both horse and rider. For interstate clients, a set of special measuring instructions are used. We also have an easy to use saddle form which takes a mold of your horse's back. Peter empathises with his client’s needs, as not only is he a fine craftsman, but also an accomplished horse rider having achieved State Champion status as an amateur rider whilst in Germany.
